Negotiating teams support Mediator's recommendations on new nursing contract

EDMONTON – The Mediator working with Alberta Health Services (AHS), Covenant Health and the United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) has recommended terms and conditions for a new contract.

Negotiation teams with AHS, Covenant Health and UNA are recommending that Mediator David Jones’ recommended terms and conditions be accepted, which would see a new Provincial Collective Agreement in place until March 31, 2017.

If accepted, the agreement would be retroactive to April 1, 2013.

The United Nurses of Alberta Negotiation Committee will bring the Mediator’s recommendation to their Reporting Meeting on July 15, 2014 in Calgary.

Details of the recommendations will be released after the parties have an opportunity to review it.

United Nurses of Alberta represents approximately 30,000 Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses. The employer group is made up of Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Lamont Health Centre and Bethany Group (Camrose).

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
