New contract ratified with Carewest

Members of United Nurses of Alberta Local 221 employed at Carewest Colonel Belcher in Calgary voted in early February 2015 to ratify a new collective agreement with their employer.

Improvements for UNA members covered by the new collective agreement include:

  • Named Holiday Overtime clarification
  • Improvement in Paramedical Coverage from $20/visit max $200 to $35/visit and 20 visits per year.
  • Survivor benefits increased from 30 days to 90 days
  • Elimination of the waiting periods for benefits
  • Cost Sharing of Benefits for Maternity and Adoption Leaves of Absence for 12 weeks
  • Improved Personal Leave
  • Employer provided $250 for annual professional association fees,
  • Provincial parity on salary
  • Continuation of the $875 Lump Sum payment
  • Introduction of the Provincial 2013-2016 Lump Sum payments

The four-year collective agreement will expire on March 31, 2017. 

UNA provides a wide range of services to its members. A key role is negotiating the excellent collective agreements that regulate salaries, benefits, schedules and working conditions of members. UNA also administers its agreements to resolve disputes, improve working conditions and protect nurses’ workplace rights.

UNA is the union for more than 30,000 Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and allied workers in Alberta.
