UNA to continue negotiations with Bethany Care Society

Representatives from United Nurses of Alberta Local 2 at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer, Local 91 at Bethany Care Centre in Calgary, Local 173 at Bethany Care Centre – Cochrane and Local 419 at Bethany Sylvan Lake will continue negotiations for a new collective agreement with their employer, Bethany Care Society, on Feb. 25, 26 and 27, 2015.

UNA representatives started negotiations with the employer Dec. 5, 2014 and are hoping that an agreement will soon be reached.

The previous collective agreement for Local 91 expired on March 31, 2013 and contracts for Local 2 and 173 expired on June 30, 2013. The current contracts will continue until a new collective agreement is reached. Although UNA has not yet received a monetary proposal from Bethany, negotiations have progressed with good discussion.

UNA members employed by Venta Care CentreChantelle ManagementCarewest and Touchmark at Wedgewood have recently concluded negotiations by ratifying new collective agreements. UNA members employed by Shepherd's Care at Millwoods Shepherd's Care Centre and Kensington Village are holding a ratification vote on Feb. 19, 2015.

UNA provides a wide range of services to its members. A key role is negotiating the excellent collective agreements that regulate salaries, benefits, schedules and working conditions of members. UNA also administers its agreements to resolve disputes, improve working conditions and protect nurses’ workplace rights.

United Nurses of Alberta is the union for more than 30,000 Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and allied workers in Alberta.
