Happy International Nurses Day and Thank You.

People are encouraged to thank a nurse on International Nurses Day and I take this opportunity to thank all the nurses who are members of United Nurses of Alberta.

This week I met with some of the nurses displaced from Fort McMurray by the wildfire.  Despite the hardships they now endure, their concern for their colleagues and for their community ravaged by the fire, demonstrates how bright their spirit of caring continues to shine.

This past week every provincial nurses union and the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions contributed to the Canadian Red Cross and conveyed messages of support and solidarity - nurses caring for and about nurses.

Thank you for what you do every day at work and in your community. Nurses contribute something very special to the wellbeing of those around us and those we care for. Be proud to be a nurse. I am very proud to have the honour of representing nurses.

Happy International Nurses Day and thank you.
