University of Alberta Nursing student awarded CFNU scholarship

University of Alberta Nursing student Sydney Shopa is the latest recipient of the Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions Nursing Education Scholarship.

Sydney’s scholarship application was sponsored by her mother, Maryann Shopa, who is a member of UNA Local 84. Maryann is the Treasurer of Local 84, which represents nurses employed at the Hinton Healthcare Centre and Hinton Community.

UNA awards Nursing Education Scholarships each year to assist nursing students in their first year of studies at approved nursing programs at post-secondary institutions in Alberta. In 2017, UNA will award ten scholarships of $1000 each and one award of $1000 sponsored by the Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions.

Applicants must be related to a UNA member in good standing, complete an application form and write a short essay. Applications for UNA’s 2018 Nursing Education Scholarship will be accepted until Oct. 15, 2017.
