No interest in 'commercialization' of care: health minister

IMG_0891.jpgAlberta Health and Wellness Minister Fred Horne assured UNA members today at their AGM that the government of Premier Alison Redford is "not interested in a discussion about commercialization of health care."

"We've done that before," said Horne, adding, however, that the Alberta government needs "to be prepared to talk about how each profession works with the other members of the team."

Said Horne, who was named health minister on Oct. 12: "Nurses have a critical role in strengthening out health care system. I'm not sure yet that we are using nurses to the full scope of their training."

Horne, who worked for many years as a health policy consultant, received applause when he pledged an end to "reorganization or otherwise disruption of the health care system."
