Ken Collier, provincial chair of Friends of Medicare holds up a newspaper in front of the provincial Legislature on November 17th. Friends of Medicare delivered over 1,000 letters in opposition to the Alberta Health Act.

The newspaper headline reads: Health Revolt. Red Deer citizens say the government must act because the huge switch to assisted living at the Extendicare facility is leaving residents with far lower levels of care, and exposing them to neglect.

Nurses also showed up at the Legislature to register their opposition to the Alberta Health Act this week. Friends of Medicare called people to the public galleries to witness debate on the Health Act and nurses were there.

On Wednesday evening a sizable group of people showed up including a large contingent from UNA. President Heather Smith and Secretary-Treasurer Karen Craik were there, along with Diane Lantz, President of Local 1. Judy Brandley, Barb Engel, Alan Besecker, Mary Gordon and Peggy Hopkins also all attended.
