UNA's Janice Peterson appointed to provincial OH&S Council

UNA staff member Janice Peterson has been appointed by the provincial cabinet to a three-year term on the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Council.

Peterson joined UNA in 1996 and has served in UNA's Occupational Health and Safety Officer position since 2005. She will be returning to an LRO servicing position with the union in early 2012.

"This appointment will provide me with the opportunity to continue advocating for safe and healthy workplaces for Alberta workers," Peterson said.

The appointments of Peterson and several other representatives of working people, employers and the public to the nine-member provincial board were announced last week by Human Services Minister Dave Hancock.

Board members, who are recruited through open competition for their expertise in occupational health and safety and workplace incident prevention, advise the government on health and safety issues and hear appeals related to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
