UNA talking with Alberta Health Services about pay day change in June
One-time advance can help transition

2011 June Calendar.jpgUNA has been having discussions with AHS about reasonable implementation of the pay day change coming in June. AHS has announced it is moving pay day for most Calgary, Capital and AADAC employees to “allow timekeepers more time to input payroll information, therefore insuring accuracy.”

AHS is standardizing payroll on the e-People system and is making a one-time shift of pay day from Friday, June 10 to Wednesday, June 15. Pay will still be bi-weekly, but on Wednesdays, after the change.

UNA is talking with AHS about a special advance to aid transition. AHS is offering employees a one-time advance to help with the transition to the new pay day. Employees will receive a special form to submit their request for an advance in writing.

Initially AHS was only offering the advance to regular and temporary part-time and full-time staff. UNA has requested this be extended to casuals. UNA believes it would be unreasonable not to make the advance available to casual employees as well.

The pay date change affects staff:
--on e-People system from the former Calgary Health Region
--on VAX payroll from the former Capital Health Region, and
--on VAX payroll from the former AADAC

AHS says the move to e-People and the new pay day will be extended over the next few months to other employees across the province. They expect it will be province-wide by spring of 2012.

There have been frequent – and difficult to correct – payroll errors in the past. UNA hopes more time between cutoff and pay can reduce the number of errors.

The pay day bump will be cushioned somewhat for nurses as they will be receiving their market condition lump sum of $875 (pro-rated for part-time and casual) on the first pay day following the pay period which includes March 31, 2013..

UNA and AHS are advising employees to contact their financial institution if the Friday pay deposit is essential to cover any automatic payment withdrawals from their personal accounts.
