"It's a lot of fun getting nurses from several different Locals together to talk and learn about different aspects of running the union," UNA Education Officer Tim Gough says.

The workshops cover several topics including:

How to Run a Local - #1 Administration & #2 Member Engagement (for new Local Executive members)

Treasurers' Workshop (for Local President and Treasurer)

Professional Responsibility Committee (for new PRC Committee members)

Occupational Health and Safety (for new OH&S Committee members)

Grievance (for new Grievance Committee members)

Ward/Office Rep (for new Ward or Office Reps)

Computer workshops - NOT provincially funded. The content of each session is tailored to meet the needs of the people requesting or attending the session or is set from questions and concerns arising from the tech support calls handled by UNA Systems Support. Feel free to request a special session for your local if you have at least 5 people interested.

To be eligible for provincial funding, members must be on the Local Executive (How to Run a Local) or the applicable Committee (PRC, OH&S and Grievance) or be a Ward/Office/Area Representative. The Local President is ex-officio on all committees.

Individuals are provincially funded only once per workshop.

Funding includes salary replacement, accommodation and meals (as required) and mileage for out-of-town participants.
UNA Workshops

Any member wanting to get more active in UNA can get a good head start through one of the UNA provincial education workshops. Run by UNA's Education Officers, Tim Gough, Murray Billett and Irene Smith, the full-day workshops provide a wealth of information and hands on experience with some of the practical skills.

Additional workshops may be added if necessary, if you are unable to attend the workshops currently scheduled. Please call to have your name added to the waiting list and additional dates may be scheduled to meet the demand.
