First VP Jane Sustrik shows support for Maple Leaf poultry workers

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 401 has applied to the Alberta Labour Relations Board replace the so-called Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) as the bargaining representative of employees of the chicken processing facility.

United Nurses of Alberta First Vice-President Jane Sustrik was on hand August 8 to support employees of the Maple Leaf poultry plant who want to join a real union.

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 401 has applied to the Alberta Labour Relations Board replace the so-called Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) as the bargaining representative of employees of the chicken processing facility on Edmonton’s east side. CLAC has a reputation as an employer-friendly organization.

Representatives of most major unions in the Edmonton area, including UNA, were on hand on August 8 to show their support as UFCW served a BBQ lunch to workers of the plant over their short lunch breaks.
