Alberta Labour Relations Board determines it is the appropriate forum to hear UNA Nurse Practitioners application

Nurse Practitioners Application for Determination

After considering submissions from stakeholders, the Alberta Labour Relations Board has determined it is the most appropriate forum to determine the constitutional issues raised by United Nurses of Alberta’s application for determination to represent Nurse Practitioners employed by Alberta Health Services.

In a submission, AHS had asked the LRB to examine if it was the best forum for this issue, or if the constitutional question should be sent to the courts for determination. The Board then asked all parties to make submissions on that question.

On July 3, the ALRB said in a statement to stakeholders it had determined it is the most appropriate forum for the constitutional question. In addition, the statement said a conference call will be arranged to schedule case management of the procedure to be followed. Case management is the next step in the Board's process. Case management is a facilitated dispute resolution process intended to promote settlement discussions.
