United Nurses of Alberta supports striking public health nurses in Windsor, Ontario

In a show of solidarity, United Nurses of Alberta’s Executive Board has voted to contribute $10,000 to support striking public health nurses in Windsor, Ontario. The 86 nurses represented by the Ontario Nurses' Association have been on strike since March 8 and remain on the picket line despite three attempts to get back to the bargaining table.

Heavy workloads and the expectation of fair pay and respect are the key issues for the employees of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

“Public health is a key part of the health care system across Canada,” said UNA President Heather Smith.

“UNA is proud to support these Windsor nurses in their struggle to be fairly compensated for this important work on behalf of patients, their families and the community,” said Smith.

UNA members are encouraged to send an online message to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit board of health, asking this employer to negotiate a fair collective agreement with nurses.
