UNA congratulates Tyler Shandro on his appointment as Health Minister

United Nurses of Alberta congratulates Premier Jason Kenney and all members of his cabinet and looks forward to working with new Minister of Health Tyler Shandro to enhance and protect Alberta’s public health care system.

“We look forward to meeting with Minister Shandro to ensure the expertise and education of Registered Nurses across Alberta is drawn upon to improve the quality of health care,” said UNA President Heather Smith.

Shandro was elected as MLA for Calgary-Acadia on April 16, 2019 and was sworn in as Minister of Health today.

“Front-line nurses have enormous knowledge that can be used to protect and enhance the treatment of Albertans in the public health care system,” Smith said. “We look forward to sharing that knowledge with Minister Shandro.”

UNA also congratulates Jason Copping, who was named Minister of Labour and Immigration.

“This ministry is responsible for the protection of working people in Alberta and our constitutionally protected system of labour relations, and we look forward to his having the opportunity to hear our views on these important issues,” Smith said.

UNA continues to advocate vigorously on issues that have a direct impact on patient care and the nursing profession and looks forward to working with the new government to improve the public health care system that Albertans depend upon every day.
