Nurses to hold information walks today at five Alberta locations

The walks are being held to raise public awareness of the impact of nurse layoffs planned and implemented by Alberta Health Services on patient care in the province’s hospitals.

Members of the United Nurses of Alberta will be holding Wear White Wednesday information walks at five locations in Alberta today – two in Edmonton, one in St. Albert, one in Drumheller and one in Okotoks.

The walks are being held to raise public awareness of the impact of nurse layoffs planned and implemented by Alberta Health Services on patient care in the province’s hospitals. Many participating nurses will be wearing white to demonstrate their pride in their profession and their support for their patients and their families.

The five information walks are planned as follows:

  • UNA Local 302N members at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton will rally from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the sidewalk at University Avenue and 117 Street.
  • UNA Local 33 members at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton will rally from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in front of their worksite, 10240 Kingsway Ave.
  • UNA Local 85 members at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert and members of Local 154 at the nearby Youville Home will rally from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sturgeon, 201 Boudreau Rd.
  • UNA Local 74 members at the Drumheller Health Centre will rally from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in front of their worksite, 351 - 9 St. NW.
  • UNA Local 65 members at the Okotoks Urgent Care Centre will rally from noon to 2 p.m. in front of their worksite, 11 11 Cimarron Common.
