Calgary-area UNA members eligible to apply for CDLC scholarships

Affiliated members of the Calgary and District Labour Council, their spouses and dependents – including Calgary and area members of United Nurses of Alberta – are eligible to apply for two $1,500 Sean Gillen Memorial Scholarships.

All applicants are required to submit an essay of 1,500 to 2,500 words on any one of the following subjects:

- What Unions Mean to Me

- History of the Labour Movement in Alberta

- Future of the Labour Movement in Alberta

The scholarships are available for education or training from a recognized post-secondary educational institution, defined as public post-secondary institutions given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and certificates through specific legislation and a small number of private post-secondary institutions with degree-granting authority.

Application to the CDLC scholarship fund may be made no more than once every two years.

To apply, applicants must fill out the scholarship application form, including the applicant’s essay, and submit both to the office of the Calgary District Labour Council, Suite 321, 3132 - 26 Street NE, Calgary, AB, T1Y 6Z1. The deadline for applications is June 1 of each year.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by September 1 of each year. Upon providing documentation indicating the course or courses for which they have registered, the CDLC will remit the funds directly to the successful applicant.

Decisions of the CDLC Scholarship Committee are final. The scholarship committee will be comprised of the CDLC President, one member of the CDLC Executive and a delegate to the CDLC.

Application forms and more information are available on the CDLC website.
