July 15 Reporting Meeting to take place at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Calgary

United Nurses of Alberta’s July 15th Reporting Meeting will be held at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary.

The important meeting at which the UNA Negotiating Committee will report on the progress in bargaining and mediation to more than 500 delegates from across the province representing all affected UNA locals is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the facility, located at 37th Street and Glenmore Trail S.W.

Bargaining for a new Provincial agreement commenced May 2013. UNA and the employer bargaining committee agreed to mediation in April 2014. The parties jointly agreed to David Jones as mediator.

From May 28 to June 26, 2014 the representatives for UNA and employers (Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Lamont Health Centre and Bethany Group-Camrose) met with the mediator eight days.  While many issues/proposals have been discussed, little progress has been made. The employers continue to propose many regressions to scheduling and in-charge provisions.

Additional mediation dates are set for July 2-4 and 8-10, after which the UNA Reporting Meeting is scheduled. No further dates have been scheduled beyond July 10.

Generally at a Reporting Meeting the Negotiating Committee reports either that it has reached a tentative agreement or talks have reached an impasse.

If a tentative agreement has been reached the delegates review the agreement and determine if the assembly recommends ratification by the membership.

In the event of an impasse, delegates discuss an appropriate response that can bring negotiations to a successful conclusion with a fair collective agreement for the union’s members.

All UNA Locals participating in Provincial Negotiations will receive official notification of their delegate entitlement by Friday, June 27. Locals not participating in Provincial Negotiations will be entitled to one provincially funded observer.  There are no other provincially funded observers.
