UNA bargains with Venta Care Centre

Representatives of United Nurses of Alberta Local 226 started negotiations this week for a new contract with their employer, Venta Care Centre. UNA’s bargaining committee met with representatives of Venta on October 9 and 10.

UNA members at the north Edmonton long-term care centre saw their contract expire on August 31, 2014. The current agreement will continue until a new contract is signed.

UNA provides a wide range of services to its members. A key role is negotiating the excellent collective agreements that regulate salaries, benefits, schedules and working conditions of members. UNA also administers its agreements to resolve disputes, improve working conditions and protect nurses’ workplace rights.

UNA members recently ratified a provincial collective agreement with Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Bethany Care (Camrose) and Lamont Health Centre.

UNA is the union for more than 30,000 Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and allied workers in Alberta.
