UNA continues to work with AHS on Ebola Preparedness

United Nurses of Alberta representatives met with Alberta Health Services officials on Feb. 27, 2015 to discuss issues related to preparedness for the Ebola Virus Disease. Representatives of UNA and other health care unions are meeting with employers on a monthly basis as needed to discuss relevant updates related to Ebola Virus Disease preparedness.

At the meeting, UNA First Vice-President Jane Sustrik asked about expiry dates of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits available in Alberta hospitals and whether nurses will need to renew their PPE training on a regular basis. AHS committed to responding with answers to these questions.

AHS and Infection Prevention and Control officials outlined the findings of a new Human Factors report and how it could impact policies and procedures related to donning and doffing PPE. UNA will review the report and supply AHS with feedback.

Relevant information and guidelines will continue to be updated on the AHS Ebola website.

AHS has created a dedicated information line for Alberta Health Services staff who may have questions about Ebola. The phone line is available 24/7 at 1-866-301-2668.

UNA is committed to working with AHS to ensure the safety of front-line health care workers and the public is a priority.

Please continue to alert UNA to any concerns you have about protocols, preparation and equipment related to the Ebola Virus Disease.
