AFL Calgary campaign schools now taking applicants

The Alberta Federation of Labour will be running two campaign schools for members this month.

A session on how to be a campaign manager will be held Aug. 19-23 and a session on voter contact organizing will be held Aug. 26-30. Applications must be completed and submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.

Course descriptions are as follows:

Campaign Management: Learn the specific skills required to manage any campaign – political, issues-based, awareness campaigns, organizing drives, etc. This course is open to anyone with sufficient previous experience in formal campaigning who is looking to expand their skills and take a leadership role directing a campaign.

Voter Contact Organizing: This course is open to anyone interesting in learning the fundamentals of member-to-member or voter outreach, including best practices, traditional and online tactics and tools, and how to determine who your target audience is and communicate with them effectively.

The Calgary courses are being presented on a tight time frame so they can be completed in time for the Sept. 3 Calgary-Foothills provincial by-election campaign. Material learned will also be useful to campaign volunteers in the Oct. 19 federal election.

Space is limited and not all applicants will be accepted. Details will be confirmed upon receipt of registration. Return the application form to afl@afl.org or fax to 780.484.5928 by 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.
