'UNA... Here for Nurses' is the theme of UNA's 2015 AGM, starting tomorrow

The 38th Annual General Meeting of the United Nurses of Alberta opens in Edmonton tomorrow morning. 

The meeting will be called to order at 9 a.m. and the opening will be followed immediately by an address by UNA President Heather Smith to more than 800 delegates and other participants.

The theme of the three-day 2015 AGM is “UNA … Here for Nurses.”

Speakers at this year’s AGM include Alberta Health Minister Sarah Hoffman, College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta President Shannon Spenceley, and Stephen Lewis, the former UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and former leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party.

Delegates democratically elected by UNA’s more than 30,000 members will also deal with important union business, including approval of UNA’s annual budget and elections for first and second vice-presidents and district representatives.

The AGM, taking place at the at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, will adjourn on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 29.
