AUPE Wildcat Strike concludes

AUPE and the Alberta Government have resolved the illegal strike and the Correctional Officers have returned to duty this morning.

Throughout the strike UNA monitored the safety conditions for nurses who were expected to remain in the facilities and provide care for the offenders. At most sites, nurses indicated that it continued to be safe, and continued to provide care. However, nurses at the Edmonton Remand Centre and a section of the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre felt their safety was threatened, and invoked their right to refuse dangerous work. The nurses and UNA worked closely with AHS to develop plans that ensured the safety of all.

With the strike now over, all nurses are back in the facilities, and programs are beginning to return to normal.
